The alarm goes off. You hit the snooze button. Once, twice, three times until you figure you had better be up or else. It has been increasingly difficult each day. You feel bored, out of your element and in need of a constant stimulation boost. Cue in watching funny cat videos online, spending hours on social media stalking people, doing Snapchat videos every hour and drinking the last cup of your office tea. You have been stuck in this rut for far too long.
Before you realise you need help, you will be doing all those things I have mentioned. Maybe you started that new job with vigor but now you have been on the downward slump. Now you need to assess things you need to do improve yourself. It is a perfect mantra for a procrastinator like me.
First make a list of things that you haven’t yet done and within a space of a few hours prioritize from the most urgent and get to it. Focus on an all-round improvement of personal goals, financial goals and social goals to get to all aspects of your life.
Start on things like a passport application process, or language classes or even saving up for future investments. The intention is to move from “I Will Do” to “I’m Doing It Now.”
You could start with the documents you can obtain at a small fee from a government office like a Certificate of Good Conduct or a HELB Loan Clearance Certificate and Tax Certificate. The health insurance card may not help so much but at least you will have options. Then move on to stuff you will need. A drivers’ license, a passport if you intend to travel. Do it when you don’t need it urgently so that when you do everything will be so much easier.
Walk into that office today, ask them what you need, start the initiative and follow it up to the end. But “Do It Now”. Work on that personal and social growth as well.Take up a language class, enroll in a gym, take a different route to work. Do It Differently but Do It Now before you convince yourself out of it.
